Today’s digital reality means we are plugged in! 24/7 connectivity, once a science fiction fancy is now the new normal. In fact, according to the Pew Research Center, 84% of cell phone users claim they would not be able to survive a single day without their device. A SINGLE DAY!
One of our favourite quotes comes from novelist and activist Anne Lamont, “almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” Of course, as a technology company, our livelihood revolves around gizmos and gadgets. Obviously, when used responsibly, they enhance our lives on many levels. However, unhealthy attachments to smartphones and social media accounts are a cause for concern. This compelling video, I Forgot My Phone, puts an exclamation mark on the issue.
Ready to unplug, and find a bit of balance in our connected world? Perhaps a couple of these suggestions will help:
Commit to starting your day “tech-free.” Meditate, grab a book, enjoy a long walk knowing your device will be waiting for you.
Schedule a daily power down. Intentionally choose a specific time of the day to log off, and stick to it. Make it a daily habit.
Take an extended break, consider it a social media cleanse or detox period. Select a weekend or week to completely turn off. Rest assured your inbox and social media notifications will be waiting for you.
…. And now it’s time to practice what we preach. The mountains are calling and the RW Networks Inc. team is logging off for the day.
